In addition to its sweet and smoky flavor, I also love these simple wings because they are:
- Easy: Only a few ingredients that are probably already in your pantry, a sheet pan, some wings, and less than 40 minutes.
- Healthy: Being that these bbq wings are refined sugar-free and sweetened with honey makes this recipe great for clean eating.
- Meal-Prep and Freezer Friendly: These wings can be stored in an air-tight container and enjoyed for up to three days in the fridge or in the freezer for weeks. I use these reusable glass containers.
- Enjoyed by everyone! Wings are a favorite for the whole family, and are especially party friendly!
WHAT YOU WILL YOU NEED:
- Free-Range Organic Chicken Wings: I get mine from ButcherBox. It’s a subscription box that offers high-quality pasture-raised and organic meats!
- Avocado Oil: A high-heat cooking oil that is a substitute for vegetable and canola oils. You can get it on Amazon here, or Thrive Market here.
- Fresh Chives: Because every dish needs a fresh herb!
- Homemade Honey Barbecue Sauce: Quick and easy homemade honey barbecue sauce made with tomato sauce, tomato paste, coconut aminos, raw honey, apple cider vinegar, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, sea salt, black pepper, and a bit of filtered water. So simple. So much healthier than store-bought with all the extra additives. You could go with an organic unsweetened barbecue sauce like this one from Primal Kitchen and add a touch of honey if you’d like.
I’ve used affiliate links above, in case you need help finding any of the ingredients. Many people ask where to buy coconut aminos. You can get it on Amazon, Thrive Market, or at your local Whole Foods or health food store.

Description
These Smoky Honey Barbecue Chicken Wings are definitely a favorite. Complete with a homemade honey-sweetened barbecue sauce, smoked paprika, and a few other healthy ingredients, these sheet pan wings are quick and easy to make.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds chicken wings, preferably free-range organic
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- Sea salt and black pepper
- Fresh chopped chives, for topping
FOR THE HONEY BARBECUE SAUCE
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 6 ounces tomato paste
- 4 tablespoons coconut aminos
- 3 tablespoons raw honey
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon sea salt, to taste
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2–4 tablespoons filtered water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F, then line sheet pan(s) with parchment paper.
- Wash the chicken wings and pat dry very well with a towel, then coat the wings in the avocado oil and a pinch of sea salt and black pepper. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the sheet pan, then place in the preheated oven, and bake for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, make the barbecue sauce. In a small bowl or measuring cup, add in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, coconut aminos, raw honey, apple cider vinegar, and spices. Mix well. Add in 2 tablespoons of water, adding more if needed until desired consistency. Sprinkle in sea salt, and black pepper, to taste.
- Remove the chicken wings from the oven and brush the barbecue sauce onto the wings, coating both sides very well. Put back into the oven and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until the chicken reaches 165°F.
- If desired, brush any remaining barbecue sauce onto the wings and broil, while watching closely, for a couple of minutes in the end.
- Remove from the oven, top with chopped chives, and enjoy by themselves or with a couple of sides.
Notes
I encourage everyone to opt for certified organic ingredients as much as possible to avoid toxic pesticides like glyphosate.
